Facility will feature what is described as the largest photovoltaic system in Kentucky to date
The Richardsville Elementary School, currently under construction near Bowling Green, KY, is projected to be the first elementary school in the United States to have a net-zero building—a facility that produces as much energy as it uses. It will feature what is described as the largest photovoltaic system in Kentucky to date. Morton Solar & Wind, LLC has received a contract worth more than $2 million to install the building’s 340-kW photovoltaic system.
Along with the photovoltaic system, the school will also use geothermal HVAC, active solar lighting, efficient kitchen strategies, ICF walls, and energy efficient windows. The system will be grid-tied to feed energy back into the power grid. The school will receive $0.22/kWh from the local utility company for the solar energy.
