Membrana (www.membranafiltration.com) bills its SuperPhobic membrane contactors as ideal solutions for degassing inkjet inks, coatings, emulsions, oils, and more. SuperPhobic contactors use a hollow-fiber membrane with a semi-porous, gas-permeable layer on the outer surface. The process liquid comes in contact with the membrane’s outer surface, which allows gas diffusion but no liquid flow across the membrane. The membrane introduces a barrier near the liquid phase that allows the liquid and gas phases to remain independent of each other. A flow-directing baffle in the center of the contactor directs liquids radially across the membrane. According to Membrana, this configuration is designed to maximize the contact area between the vacuum phase and liquid phase for the most efficient degassing.
